Description

Dewar’s “double-age” their whiskies by re-casking them for a marrying period after blending. In 2019, Dewar’s Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod, extended this to create her own 4-stage ageing process known as Double Double ageing. This example including a finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks.

Innovation comes in many forms, and in 2019 our Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod, released a new range of Blended Scotch Whiskies with a Four Stage Ageing Process for Ultimate Smoothness. This may sound like an indulgence but the series has been picking up gold medal awards the world over since being released.

We believe that in order to do things right and get the best results you should put in double the effort. So we asked ourselves how we could put in double the effort to our range that was already Double Aged for Extra Smoothness…and it was obvious..double it!

Our Double Double Series has been aged, blended together, aged again, then finished in sherry casks for the Ultimate Smoothness.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Clear, mid-golden amber.

NOSE:
Honeyed leather, vanilla fudge, nougat and spice (nutmeg & cinnamon) with faint nuts and banana chew fruit.

TASTE:
Mellow, rich and honeyed with caramel, vanilla fudge, enlivening cinnamon and black pepper spice.

FINISH:
Caramel, vanilla fudge and cinnamon spice.

OVERALL:
Caramel, vanilla fudge and cinnamon spice.

The 21-year-old bottle took one of the most prestigious annual awards in 2019: Best Scotch Whisky according to Whisky Advocate Magazine.

Meanwhile, Jim Murray gave the 27-year-old Double Double an impressive 96.5 in his 2020 Whisky Bible, saying it’s “…a double miracle at work. And one of the best new blends I have tasted for a year or two. Superb.”

And when these whiskies launched last March, Mark Gillespie (host of the Whiskycast podcast and one of the most respected independent reviewers of whisky working today) gave all three bottles in the line (21, 27, and 32) a shocking 94 point score, calling both 21 and 27 “Excellent” and 32 “Outstanding” in his reviews.
